“Recycling” Hazardous Waste in OK

Yesterday, the Hazardous Waste Advisory Council of the ODEQ considered adopting rule allowing hazardous waste to be “recycled” with very little regulatory oversight. This a 2008 EPA rule that opens the door to abuse and “sham recycling.” According to ODEQ staff, 28 states have announced they will not adopt the rule and the EPA has announced that they will be modifying the rule. By adopting the EPA rule, Oklahoma would be one of the first states to loosening the regulation of hazardous waste. The ODEQ’s Hazardous Waste Advisory Council decided not to adopt the rule … at least for now. Here is a link to the HWAC web page with the proposed rules.
